St. Jorge Vineyard Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira
Mokelumne River
The St. Jorge vineyard is located in Lodi’s Mokelumne River AVA, planted by the Vierra family in granitic alluvial soils where the vines enjoy steady delta breezes daily. Touriga Nacional thrives in this climate, as does the other Iberian grape we were fortunate to secure from a small planting at St. Jorge. Trincadeira, while a rarity in California, is commonly planted throughout Portugal, prized for making dark, rich wines with generous fruit laced with baking spice. We were thrilled with the color and spice character we noted in this Trincadeira fruit even at low sugar levels, and feel this offers a deep textural component to the blend.
