St. Jorge Vineyard Touriga Nacional, Tinta Cão, Trincadeira

St. Jorge Vineyard Mokelumne River

The St. Jorge vineyard is located in Lodi’s Mokelumne River AVA, planted by the Vierra family in granitic alluvial soils where the vines enjoy steady delta breezes daily. Touriga Nacional thrives in this climate, as do the two other Iberian grapes we were fortunate to secure from two small plantings at St. Jorge. Tinta Cão, the “red dog,” is one of the most important port varieties, typically yielding a light, aromatic and elegant Douro wine, and a lively, fruitful addition to our rosé blend. Trincadeira, while a rarity in California, is commonly planted throughout Portugal, prized for making dark, rich wines with generous fruit laced with baking spice. We were thrilled with the color and spice character we noted in this Trincadeira fruit even at low sugar levels, and feel this offers a deep textural component to the blend.
